The annual Bedford International Games on Sunday 15th August was
the last chance for athletes to qualify for this Autumn's
Commonwealth Games. Two club throwers in particular will
be particularly happy with their performances.Mike
Floyd won the Hammer with a personal best throw of 70m45
to record his second qualifying distance in successive weeks,
thereby satisfying the selection criteria. Fingers must be
crossed for Floydy that he gets the call on
Wednesday or Thursday.
Laura Whittingham also threw a huge personal
best of 60m68 in the javelin, which was more than 2.5m further than
her previous best, which was also set this season. She too
will be eying the Commonwealth selection meeting with
interest. Other Sale Harriers at the meeting included
Rebecca Peake, who won the Shot,
Emma Lyons, who won the Pole Vault,
Sara McGreavy, who was second in the 100mH,
Rosie Semenytsh, who was 4th in the
Javelin,
Abigail Irozuru (Long Jump) and
Danielle Rooney (100mH).
For the men, Ryan Oswald (100m and 200m),
Chris Craig (200m), Rhys Smith
(400m), Debo Ademuyewo (400m) and a returning
Rob Mitchell (High Jump) competed.
