The weekend's London Grand Prix welcomed home the GB & NI
team from the European Championships and among them were our own
club athletes. Andy Turner, still celebrating
his gold medal, experienced mixed fortunes. His delight at winning
his heat turned to despair in the final. However, his earlier win
in 13.32 displayed all the slick ability that won him to the Gold
medal in Barcelona. In the women's pole, the windy conditions that
hit the stadium midway in the afternoon affected the heights being
cleared. Kate Dennison, who was just one
vault away from a place on the European Championship podium,
cleared 4.46m for third place and had some close attempts at
4.61m.Niall Brooks, seventh ranked in the world
over 800m and coached by the club's top endurance coach
Norman Poole who'd missed out on a podium position
in the World junior 800m a few weeks earlier, was in a big-time
arena competing against some of the world's best and gained immense
experience He'd hoped for a PB but struggled with heavy legs from
Canada. He's hopeful it was enough to impress the
Commonwealth Games selectors later this week.Stuart
Stokes has already booked his ticket to Delhi and showed
it's all coming together nicely with the fastest steeplechase of
the season clocking 8.33.00.
