A large number of stars from yesteryear lined up alongside lesser mortals and fun runners to honour the life Angela Deegan, club stalwart and coach who died last year from cancer at the youthful age of fifty-two. Elite performances were just past memories as luminaries of the 70/80/90's like Ron Hill, Diane & Vincente Modahl, Steve Kenyon, Dave Lewis, Paul Roden, John Wild, Sid Sacks, Janet Holt, Susan Crehan and many more, displayed flickers of former glory as they again donned shorts and t-shirts to honour a loved one, friend and running colleague. The scenic 5k route around Cown Reservoir near Rochdale had more than twenty club athletes recognise Angela contribution to our club as a friend, athlete, coach and team manager.

Gaz Raven, our GB Mountain running and Half-marathon International won the race ((15:18) despite fatigue from a busy series of races that included the Tintwisle 'Round the Resers' three days earlier.

3^rd Paul Green (15:53) was Britain's top 10-miler as a 20-year old in 1992.

8^th Mike Deegan (17:10), Angela's husband has been 'doing it for Angela' since she died and so successfully so, he's now aiming to become the fastest MV50 in the world. Go for it, Mike!

11^th Phil Scowcroft (17:46) was a classy sprinter clocking 50 sec for 400m

17^th Rachel Deegan (18:46) is Angela daughter and, like her parents a keen and talented young runner!

19^th Paul Roden MV45 (19.17) pedigree was in the mid '80's when he was 6^th in the World XC Championships (1984); won the National XC (1985) and has a marathon best of 2:18.00 (Berlin) and a half-marathon PB of 63 minutes.

25^th Nick Peach MV45 (19:53) was 5^th in the 1986 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games steeplechase and has a 'chase best of 8:33.

32^nd Bill Fox MV55 (20:28) career highlight was as Captain of the Club's 1972 Youth Team when they won the National XC Championships.

34^th Mark Caudwell MV50 (20:39)

39^th Emma-Leigh Heighway (21:07) is a middle distance youngster who was coached by Angela

42^nd Vicki Mason (21:47) was also coached by Angela Deegan and, with Emma-Leigh, was a successful member of the club's track, road and cross-country success between 2000-6.

43^rd Diane Modahl (21:50) won 800m gold in the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games & bronze at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur C'wealth Games. She's also competed in the Seoul Olympics (1998), Barcelona Olympics (1992) and Sydney Olympic Games (2000)

58^th Bruce Green (23:59) Bruce has also known Angela throughout his life and through University.

61st Vincente Modahl (24:17) Diane's husband was  former Finish National Steeplechase champion

68^th Fechin Mc Cormick, like so many others had his hay-day in the 1980's when he recorded 2:27.30 in 1983 London marathon, (still one of the fastest in Sale Harriers to-day) and 51 min for 10 miles.

70^th Jon Wild was at the top of British athletes for a decade between 1992-2002 He has a 5k PB of 13.42 (1995 in California) and a 10k PB of 28:39 (2002 in Watford). In 2001 & 2002 he was Britain's 5k track champion & 10k silver medallist in the same years. He represented England in World XC championships between 1992-2000 and in the 10,000 at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games.

89^th Sue Crehan (29:32) took part in the first ever women's 10k at the World championships (Rome '87) (qualified by clocking her 10,000m PB of 32:24 at the Bislett Games) and represented GB in the marathon at the Seoul Olympics (1988) and has a best marathon time of 2:35.10. She's represented GB in the 15k many times. Possibly the most inspirational performance of the day was her husband Jim, currently being treated for cancer, who ran the course.
