MIDDLE & LONG DISTANCE

Sale Harriers Manchester is one of the foremost athletics clubs in the country, boasting an ever-present record in all League competitions. Most of our locally based middle & long distance athletes who represent the club in these leagues train from Wythenshawe Park

where training is done for track & field, road, cross-country, trail and fell racing.  These athletes are often joined by athletes from some of the other regions clubs thus offering quality training sessions.

The main group is supervised by the club's nationally acclaimed endurance coach, Norman Poole, who coaches Senior and Under 20 Men and Women, along with John Davies, David Rodgers and Ann Griffiths.

Paul Roden coaches the Under 20 and Young Athlete Men, whilst Peter Shaw and Lisa Davies coach Under 20 and Young Athlete Women.

If you're interested or want more information telephone Dave Rodgers (0161 2919549) or click here to send him an email.

Summer training sessions are on Mondays & Wednesdays at 7.00pm and Saturdays at 10.30am. Some of these sessions are on grass at the nearby University fields. During winter months, the Monday session takes place on road at Sportscity and Saturdays could be on grass at the University fields or on hills in Heaton Park. These runners also go in small groups on trail and hill runs on Sunday mornings from various venues.

All athletes start the first of reps together, then split into two or three groups for subsequent reps according to ability, with shorter recoveries for the faster groups.
The volumes of training are recommended levels for fit senior athletes and regular racers. Younger and less fit athletes will be advised by the coaches prior to training.

In the relevant racing periods there will be smaller groups split, running their event specific sessions, whether it be 800 metres or Marathon etc.
