Tim's Track Marathon
It's hard enough running a 26-mile road marathon but ultra-distance man & seasoned marathoner TIM RAINEY, has just participated in the Crawley track marathon. Run alongside a 12-hour ultra-marathon on April 10th with 24 competitors, he won the marathon in 3:03.5 knocking four minutes of his previous PB. Tim's run 24 hour track races before but, incredibly this marathon, apart from a 5000 metre race, was the shortest event he'd ever run on a track.
He said afterwards, "It's different to road racing in that it requires a team of lap counters and runners need to work out when to take drinks (since there is the possibility of taking a drink every 400m!) whilst concentrating on pacing , staying together and avoiding lapped runners. A great experience"
