The Platt Fields 10K
The third Manchester Parks Grand Prix, The Platt Fields 10k on Sunday June 27th was a 'Sizzler' - not because of fast times (far from it!) but because of the hottest day of the summer.
Frank Cordingley's (39:42) was over a minute slower than he'd hoped for and found the 3 lap course tough in the heat. Ultra-distance marathoner, Tim Rainey (42:33) was 'quite pleased' - as he would do - having run a 50k the previous weekend and a 20 miles training sessionthe previous day.
Jerry Smith was 'glad' he ran despite recovering from injury. Despite his 43:37, he still managed 2nd in the MV55 age category. MV60 Terry Lonergan (43:4) felt more comfortable than in the BMAF 5k the previous week and was good enough to lift the MV60 2nd prize. Read all about it/him on his blog 'runningonempty'. http://terryrunningonempty.blogspot.com/
MV55 Geoff Beattie made a welcome return to racing after experiencing an horrific fall and dislocating his shoulder at the same location a few weeks earlier. Rumour has it he bore the pain heroically without complaint!! His habit of going off fast was, therefore, curtailed due to a fear of a repeat by over zealous competitors. His time of 46:15 was all the more impressive in the early days of recovery.
In the words of her husband Frank, our other prize-winner was "the gorgeous Mrs Jackie Cordingley" who took 1st prize Vet 50. Well done Jackie". Lynda Rowlinson described the day as "hot, hot, hot", if not her time of 47:56. Alan Romalonaro had a steady run after experiencing his first massage where the young female masseuse insisted on his removing all of his cloths. (Don't lose that number Alan).
Brian Bradshaw was disappointed with his time of 56:11which was by far his worst time this year then rushed home to watch England's dismal defeat against Germany. At least everyone performed better than they did!!!!!!!!
