Boggart Chase 10K 2011
Whilst 54,000 runners were braving the elements in Newcastle for the Great North Run a group of Sale Harriers competed in the last of the series of Manchester Parks Races at Boggart Hole Clough in North Manchester. Previous races in the series included The Salford 5k in May, The Sale 5 mile a week later, The Platt Fields 10k in June and The Debdale 7k in July.
For many years Sale Harriers have supported these events with some excellent performances in all categories. Sundays' race at Boggart Hole Clough was a tough challenge with numerous climbs all within the municipal park. The 10k times were all a bit down on the norm due to the hills. The race was won by Rob Tuddenham in 35:41. Of our Sale athletes first home was Frank Cordingley 1st V50 41:38, next came Jerry Smith V55 who had run the Lantern Pike Fell Race the previous day and still managed a very creditable 44:31 for a seasons best. John Battersby V50 battled with Terry Lonnegan V60, with John narrowly beating Terry (John 4th Vet 50 45:27) (Terry 2nd V60 45:52). Jan Nichols was 1st V40 with 46:51 followed by Jackie Cordingley 1st V50 48:08. Bea Cordingley who is just about to head off to Loughborough University was 1st U20 with a time of 49:41 followed by her older sister Jenny with a time of 54:40. Jenny Miles was 2nd V60 with a time of 60:25 and she and Jan had also done the gruelling fell race the day before. (and Jenny did not get lost in Boggart Hole Clough!).
In the Grand Prix event, series winners included Frank Cordingley 1st Vet 50 and Jackie Cordingley 1st Vet 50.
