Northern Y.A. Road Relay Champs
The first Boys race was the under 13's, in which they were just a few seconds outside the medals, and might have brought them home but for a confusing mix up at one of the change overs. Mike Quinn was our fastest and brought the A Team home in 11th on the quality first stage, whilst Dillon Burchill came in 17th for the B Team. A mix up on the change over lost the A team vital seconds, but even so Saeed Absiyeh moved up to 8th place, with Adam Spilsbury making up ground chasing to the line in 8th. The last stage saw Adam Kinghorn go off hard to bring us into a top three place, but couldn't quite hold it all the way to the finish, bringing the A team home in 5th place. Jake Spilsbury on the last stage for the B Team ran our 2nd fastest time to give them a very credible 8th place showing the depth of the squad, as a number of boys were also missing.
The Under 15 Team had a number of absences with football games and trials plus illness and growing pain injury problems, but still the lads in their first year in the age group, brought the Team of Euan Gilchrist, Dylan Stanway and Jordan Bezzina home in a solid 25th position.
Our Under 17 Men were a class above the other teams, taking the lead from the beginning with Ryan Moore also winning gold for being the fastest runner of the day, whilst Alex Bradford and Ben Fox had solid runs for the B and C teams. On stage two Alex Burchill came home in joint first with Khaled Asiyeh and Kyle Conway moving up places for both the B and C teams. Chris McGahan loves running the glory leg and showed all of his track speed and elegance to smoothly and comprehensively bring Sale home with team gold. Whilst Dillon Bezzina progressed the B team even more, we couldn't complete a C team after losing a runner. (Written by Team manager Dave Rodgers)
