Young Athletes Make Brilliant Start
Sale started their defence of the Northern League title with a resounding victory at Blackburn, winning the match by a massive 170 points. The standard of performance was high with 22 Grade 1 performances, nine by Sale athletes.
In the U13 events, Jonah Efoloko won the hurdles and both sprints with Grade 1's in the sprints and he also contributed to a sprint relay team that won by a margin of three seconds. Further victories came from Anthony Bruton (800m & Shot), Ben Mosley (LJ & 200m), Darnell Dell (Hurdles) and Luke Chesters (1500m). Star girl was Kelly Chadwick with two Grade 1 performances (LJ & 150m) and a fantastic last leg in the relay to bring her team home in first place. Meg Mc Hugh and Neve Cotton had HJ victories whilst Meg also achieved a Grade 1 in second place in the hurdles. Aine Cunningham won the 800m with a Grade 1 performance whilst Tia Blissett won the 'B' race. Another Grade 1 winning performance came from Ellie Twite in the 1200m with Olivia Green winning the 'B' race with a new PB and another Grade 1 performance. Eight Grade 1 performances by U13 athletes is an incredible achievement for the club.
The only other Grade 1 performance for Sale was in the U15 girls where English Schools Champion Amy Williams won the long jump. Amy also won the high jump and ran a storming last leg to win the relay. Further victories came from Isobelle Reynolds-Duffy (100m), Tayloa-Seville (100m), J'Nay Ward (200m), Annabell Dowd (Discus), Sophie Ullah (Shot) and Annabell Kitchen (LJ). U15 winners amongst the boys were Prosper Declan (100m), Harry Lord (Javelin), James Radcliffe (300m), Rory Canham (Hurdles), Adam Kinghorn (800m), Jarred Newton (Javelin) and Matt Ogden (Pole Vault).
Star of the U17 women's team was Alyssia Carr with three wins (200m, LJ & Hurdles). Further victories came from Chloe Yates (800m) Gaby George (100m & 200m), Lydia Randles (hurdles), Jade Clarke (LJ & TJ), Rachel Hibberd (3000m), Caitlin Thomas (3000m), Eleanor Vickers (300m hurdles), Megan Davies (1500m), Abi Fitton (1500m), Tawana Gardner (300m), Eleanor Canham (300m) whilst Lydia, Chloe, Tawana and Bucky Ojo won the 4 x 300m relay by the massive margin of twelve seconds. Nathan Harris won both sprints in the U17 event whilst Chris Bradley high-jumped a massive 1m87cms for 2nd place. Further victories came from Ross Mc Cormick (Hurdles), Josh Halston (Hurdles), Jack Sheldon (Hammer 7 discus) and Emmanuel Ajala (HJ).
In all Sale turned out 86 athletes who, between them, won 62 events between them including seven relays. The next match at Wirral on Sunday may 20th
