Senior Women Avoid Relegation
Sale Women's UK Premier League team visited Swansea at the weekend faced with the prospect of relegation. They had to finish sixth to be safe but, for most of the day they were in seventh place. Numerous call offs and an injury on the day were not good omens.
Abigail Irozuru got the team off to a good start by winning the long jump. She also stepped in to cover the 200m and came in a fantastic 3rd! She also did one triple jump to earn us points and ran a leg of the relay. Claire Linskill got valuable points for us also in the triple jump. Jessica Taylor competed in 5 events for the team, long jump, hurdles, high jump and the 2 relays, terrific team support. Abigail Fitzpatrick came in 3rd in a season's best 400m hurdles and filled in for the 100m and 400m relays.
The throws, the backbone of the team once again performed magnificently with a first for Rosie Semenyish backed up with first class performances by Kirsty Law, Alison Rodger, Laura Douglas, Chiara Collins and Brogan Crowley. Brogan also ran in the A 100m hurdles and produced a very good time into a very strong wind. Lucy Evans worked very hard in the 100m, 200m and the relay. With 13 gaps in spite of the team effort we were still in 7th place and relegated but the team really pulled together. Jenna Hill doubled to run in the 1500m and the 400m relay, Emily Beedham did the same and Abigail Fitzpatrick stepped into the 100m relay. Rosie even ran in the A 400m!
Well done to everyone. For the first time in the history of the UK Premier League , the club were seriously faced with relegation and happily avoided it to re-group and return to top league positions next year. (Presented by deputy Team Manager Chris Bartram)
