December On The Roads
The Stockport 10 is a much loved local race, for reasons that are sometimes hard to define! In the organisers' own words: "It lacks many of the factors that make other races popular: it's not flat, it's not scenic, and it's not traffic-free. But it's well organised, fun, well supported and has a unique atmosphere." Sampling the atmosphere for Sale Harriers were the following:
Steven Townley, 60.32, continuing his recent fine run of form finished in 25th place overall, just outside his PB of 60.12 from the same race last year.
Lee Kaufman, 61.54 for a great PB, almost 4 minutes quicker than last year.
Zoe Gmerek, 74.01 in only her second 10 mile race. Zoe was 21st female.
Jerry Smith, 74.01 running it with Zoe.
Louise Robbins, 74.22. Louise was 25th female.
Gary Chadwick, 74.32
Carla Ousey, 82.01
David Gill, 84.39
Ranjit Bennet, 92.26
Jenny Miles, 95.23. Jenny was very pleased to be over 3 minutes faster than in previous years in this race.
Guys 10 mile race: Two Harriers journeyed up the A6 to tackle the Guys 10 mile road race from the Guys Thatched Hamlet, just 4 miles off the motorway at Bilsborrow near Garstang. With the sun high in a December sky and temperature just above freezing 318 runners completed the very flat race on quiet Lancashire country lanes. Simon Jackson (M40) was 30th in and was happy to finish in 63.03 knocking two minutes off his 10 mile PB. Simon's preparing for his fourth Windermere Marathon next May. Terry Lonergan was 109TH in 71.52 good enough for 3rd M60.
Tatton Yule Run is not everyone's way of getting into the Christmas spirit, but two couples, Dawn Holding and Gaz Weatherley and Audrey and Peter Gresty, challenged each other on a completely different endurance in the Tatton Yule Run on Sunday 8th December. Up to their knees in mud, soaked through and slipping all the way, Gaz (55.49) knocked over two minutes of his best whilst Dawn (57.33), dressed as Mummy Christmas, improved by almost two minutes. Audrey also strangely enjoyed her Baptism of mud and completed the course in 55:36. Other Sale Harriers who ran included Mark Brewer 39:17, John Lally 1:00:25, Graham Padget 1:00:49, Marinda Breddy 1:01:28, Pete Gresty 1:03:12, Davina Twite 1:06:47 and Rosa Elliott in 1:07:18.

Braunstone Parkrun 5k (Leicester) Dean Hardman managed a 16:49 5k clocking in winning this parkrun on December 1st, very pleasing in that he dropped fifty seconds off his previous run in just 5 weeks. He wrote, "I'm in much better shape than I was at the cross relays and will hopefully drop another 30 seconds before the end of the year". He's still not given up on his target to hit 15:59 before the end of 2012 but more hopeful to achieve it by the spring.
