Sixteen Selected For English Schools
Sale youngsters had a tremendous day at the County Schools Championships on Saturday winning 4 individual titles, 10 individual medals and 16 county selections across all age-groups.
The Greater Manchester Schools Championships were held at Leigh Sports village and with the first 8 across the line in each race gaining county selection, our athletes faced fierce competition.
In the senior girl's race, Megan Davies won by a comfortable margin and has now won the county title in all age groups. Irmani Modahl had an incredible race to finish 4th to gain her first county selection whilst Chloe Yates was 11th. In the senior boy's race, Chris Middleton was unable to defend his title but his 4th place in his first race after injury was encouraging. Alex Bradford finished 8th and will make his county debut. Well done to England International Ryan Moore who won the Lancashire title by a large margin.
In the inter girls race, three Sale girls gained county selection with Aimee Pratt 3rd, Amber Towns 5th and Catherine Podmore 7th whilst Flora Whyte finished 11th. Adam Roden had his best run of the winter to finish runner up in the Derbyshire schools whilst Christy O'Brien in 9th place was the club's highest finisher at Leigh.
The junior girl's age-group was our strongest with Zara Thompson a clear winner of the Cheshire title with Ellie Twite in 5th place whilst at Leigh Aine Cunningham finished in silver medal position with Olivia Green 3rd Ciara Lydon 5th, Francesca Brint 9th and Claudia Cowan 11th. In the junior boy's race Dillon Burchill finished 7th and Adam Kinghorn 8th to gain County selection.
There is no English Schools Championships for Year 7 athletes, so County selection was not at stake in the youngest age-group. Niamh Nugent had a tremendous run to win the minor girl's race with a sprint finish whilst Tia Blisset had her best run of the winter to finish 4th. Luke Chesters showed a welcome return to form to finish runners-up in the boy's race whilst Oliver Hole finish 9th and James Peel finished 10th.
This was a tremendous day for Sale Harriers and a special well done to the four who four individual title winners (Niamh, Zara, Megan and Ryan); the 10 individual medals and 16 county selections across all age-groups. (Presented by coach Peter Shaw)
