The Great North West Half Marathon
The Great North West Half Marathon is run in Blackpool on a fairly flat 2 lap course along the sea front and has PB potential, weather permitting. Sunday was cold and breezy but the conditions didn't stop several Sale Harriers from producing great performances with many PBs.
Enjoying the sea air and first back for Sale was Steven Townley with 1:20:00, just 12 seconds outside his PB from Fleetwood last year. Simon Jackson with 1:22:36 ran a PB by 19 seconds; new member Kevin Foster with 1:23:02 was over a minute and a half quicker than in the same race last year and Chris Cook with 1:26:19 had a massive improvement of over six minutes from his previous PB in this race two years ago.
Zoe Gmerek carried on from where she left off in 2012 with yet another PB of 1:35:04, over a minute and a half quicker than Wilmslow last year, helped by some pacing from Jerry Smith who recorded the same time. Jenny Miles with 2:05:31 also carried on her improvement in 2012 with a PB by 15 seconds over her time from Helsby last year and also won her age category, the prize being a pair of thermal gloves which came in very handy on a chilly day!
