Manchester Marathon 2013
The runners in the 2nd Manchester Marathon in its Trafford route
enjoyed much improved weather than those who took to the streets
last year. Sale Harriers again had a significant input either
pounding the streets or marshalling along the way. Over 16
individual participants and 3 relay teams took part many achieving
pbs or meeting targets.
At the front Andi Jones took a strong lead but was later overtaken
by Dave Norman who won in 2:20:19. Unfortunately our own Gareth
Raven had to drop out but I'm sure he will be back to form again
Peter Crawford 2:44:44 Again shows he can produce a great result at
Lee Kaufman 2:54:04 A PB for club stalwart Lee.
Hayley Cavil 3:00:56 Very close to breaking that 3 hour barrier and
going great to be 12th lady.
George Kirk 3:03:26 George raised over £1000 for Christies.
Andy Mooney 3:08:19 Another PB by a significant amount and a sign
of Andys current fitness.
Tim Rainey 3:11:00 Only a whisker off his PB and a great
improvement on last year.
Steve Gavin 3:11:44 An excellent result. Another PB.
Gaurav Batra 3:12:07 Got a PB and had an excellent run.
Alistair Kell 3:14:56 A PB and this time gives an automatic entry
to London for good for age.
Francis Sweeney 3:13:59 Had a great run and beat his last years
Dillon Bezzina 3:16:24 A superb time for Dillon who has been
running for Sale for many years even though he is still only

Caroline Kinghorn 3:56:46 A PB by 14 mins Caroline has only
completed 2 marathons and her last one was Manchester last year.
She much preferred the weather this year. She said "The weather was
near perfect. Nice and cool. A bit of wind but most of the course
was quite sheltered so that was ok. Marshals were great especially
the Sale Harriers ones, but I got loads of encouragement and cheers
for my Sale Harriers vest from spectators all around the course
which was fantastic. I finally finished with a time of 3 hours 54
minutes and 44 seconds. I had bettered my PB by 14 minutes.
Fantastic. I loved every minute of it and even managed a "sprint"
finish. Thank you to all the volunteers, marshals and spectators
who made the day so brilliant and thank you to my running
Jenny Miles 4:43:38 A PB by 6 minutes. She said "It was tough but
the support was fantastic. Thanks for all the shouts from everyone,
it made such a difference.
The Sale Noughties, Janet Pickering ,Philippa Edwards, Kathryn
Fletcher and Graham Padget with a combined age of 245 completed the
Relay Marathon in a time of 4hrs and 4minutes. Daves Belle's
cosisting of Margaret Trickey, Brian Bradshaw, Marinda Breddy and
Dave Gill did 3hrs 36 and the Manchester Tarts consisting of Audrey
Gresty, Diane Hennigan, Karen Sheen and Dawn Holding did 3h 35, all
senior members of the endurance group. For anyone wishing to get a
taste for a marathon, what a brilliant way of finding out. A
brilliant day was had by all and we hope to try again next
