Narrow Victory Over Strong Liverpool Team
After a tremendous tussle in the second round in the U13/15 Northern Premier match at Doncaster our youngsters managed a narrow five point victory over the strongest Liverpool team we have met over the past five years. Competition was of a very high standard featuring many top ranked athletes and county champions from Lancashire, Cheshire, Yorkshire, Gtr. Manchester, Merseyside and the North-East.
Our U15 boy's sprint and hurdles squad were dominant with James Radcliffe winning a sprint double whilst Jona Efoloko, Cieran Donnely, Darnel Bell, Will Scofield, Oliver Mc Cormick and Ehis Ilozobhie all showed the opposition a clean pair of heels. Will and Oliver were also of an equally dominant group of throwers which also included Anthony Bruton, Rory Canham and Jaimal Brown. Versatile Ehis was a clear winner of the long jump with Ben Moseley winning the B event. In the girl's events, Kelly Chadwick won the long jump and finished runner up in the 100m with an excellent 12.7 seconds. Aine Cunningham was in great form in the 800m to record a new PB in 2nd place whilst 1500m runners Danielle Stringer and Claudia Cowan also recorded new PB's. Two other girls gaining impressive victories were Sophie Ullah (Discus), and Northern Champion Annie Williams (Pole Vault) whilst Emma Lowe was runner up in the discus
In a match involving the strongest six clubs in the north, victories in the U13 events were difficult to achie3ve. However, Anna Phillips managed to improve her 800m PB by over 10 seconds to win her event on her league debut. whilst our Primary School contingent of Beth Thornton, Lizzie Twite, Tia Ray Barton, Same Heyworth, Connor Keys and Bailey Hulse all performed with great distinction running PB's in the middle distance events, showing that our future as a club is in safe hands. Tess MC Hugh was another Primary school athlete who showed maturity beyond her years whilst competing in the jumps and hurdles.
Michael Odejim and Demo Okome dominated the high jump whilst Harry Boyd 800m) and Connor Patterson (Long Jump) both recorded new PB's. After two rounds league positions are
1. Sale Harriers Manchester 12 match points
2. Liverpool Harriers & AC 10 match points
3. Cith of Sheffield 7 match points
4. Gateshead Harriers 6 Match points
5. Preston Harriers 5 match points
6. Doncaster AC 2 match points
Such fantastic success would not be achievable without stalwart backroom work from the like of team managers, coaches, officials and parents. Thank you. Presented by Peter Shaw. Photos courtesy of Carl Worthington.
