Presented by Team Manager Jack Frost
Sandwiched between the men's glorious crowning as the British Athletic League champions, and the unfortunate fall of the UKWAL women team, the combined Northern team, ended their season at Wakefield equal second with Hull behind worthy champions Wakefield.
The men were dominant throughout the season, with Jack Andrew, Allen Crouch, Alex Bellis, John Nicholls, Jonathon Ferryman, Charles Burke and Kyle Conway ever present. At Wakefield, Daniel Heald (50.5s) with Liam Thompson (50.7s) 400 metre runs, and Jack Andrews 15.3s hurdles were the eye catching performances.
The ladies were not on good team form during 2013, though Chiara Collins and Jasmine Burke both featured prominently, but this last fixture allowed us to introduce Patrick Bell's and Pete Johnson's U/17 stables, and how easily they equipped themselves to senior competition. Tayla Saville and Buckky Ojo mixed very well with the senior sprinters, Akenke White took 2nd place in the senior long jump, and Amber Towns also took 2nd place in the 1500m.
However the most satisfying performance of the day was seeing Lee Whiteley flying round 200m in a huge personal best of 22.72secs, much faster than his bronze medal run in the recent IPC World Championships.
The Northern League as ever provides good class competition for those members aspiring to be part of the national teams.
