ON THE ROADS – OCTOBER

OCTOBER 21ST Yorkshire Marathon: Two club ‘lassies’ Sarah Douglas and Helen Reagan successfully completed the Yorkshire Marathon. For Sarah, it was her inaugural marathon run in her home city of York. Roared on by her parents, Paul Barrett and Helen Armitage, she looked strong throughout and was on course for sub 3.15 until she realised that the last half mile was an uphill finish (which resembled a fell race!) into the university Campus to finish in a time of 3.16. Helen Regan ran a massive PB by 8 minutes to finish in 3.28.43 with her previous best of 3.36.14 run in London 2009. She was twelfth in her age category. She also found it hard work but ‘pleased’ that her months of hard training also paid off.
OCTOBER 21ST OLDHAM HALF MARATHON: Chris Green, fully recovered from injury and a day after cheering on his daughter Olivia in the U15 girl’s race, ran his debut half marathon. He’s shown he has his daughter’s talent with a super finish in 1:37.15.
OCTOBER 6TH GOOSE FAIR GALLOP: Dean Hardman competed in this increasingly popular scenic multi terrain 10k race held on roads, bridleways and footpaths in Nottinghamshire. He reported, “It wasn't as glorious as I'd hoped. I've been bothered by tight calves and plantar fasciitis for some time, as well as a groin problem, and I'm barely holding myself together at present. All been made worse by an increase in mileage and intensity. I finished in 36:40 and still got 2nd, for which I got £35. General consensus is that the course is 1min 30 slower than on a flat road.
OCTOBER 6TH BUPA GREAT SCOTTISH HALF-MARATHON: Peaking in his training for the Frankfurt Marathon to, hopefully improve on his best of 2:17 Antony Ford competed in this race. Among some the world’s top half-marathoners, he finished 8th in 1:06.08, not too far off his best of 64:54 recorded in last year’s Wilmslow HM. He was joined by Nick Samuels who’s a middle distance specialist, but took on a pace making role for a female colleague. He clocked 1:11.04, just slightly slower than the 1:70.16 he recorded in September’s GHR
