JONA’S LATEST YDL RECORD
Having set two national records in the Tom Pink AAA’s relays and benefitted from recent coaching sessions from world class athletes Felix Sanchez, Tiffany Porter, Richard Kilty, Greg Rutherford and Christine Ohuruogu and Chris Tomlinson, our U13/15 boys and girls were in a confident mood and scored another great victory in the Northern Premier YDL match at Leeds and look set to retain the league title. The standard of competition was very high featuring many recently crowned county champions from Lancashire, Cheshire, Yorkshire, Merseyside, Gtr. Manchester and the North-East.
Star club performer was Jona Efoloku who ran 11.0 to win the 100m and to break his own National YDL record. Jona currently holds all three YDL sprint record and was recently featured on the TV with Jamaican world champion Yohane (The Beast) Blake. Kelly Chadwick was also in spectacular form scoring a sprint double winning by as big a margin as Jona. Other Sale athletes to record sprint victories were Ellie Jackson, Maria Mc Polin, Mairead Power, Laurelle Obi, Charlotte Mairs, Layla Nealon, Dane Winchole, Rory Keen and Ben Mosley whilst Rhys Parker, Darnell Bell, Logan Burrows and Lois Mc Tiffin were runners up.
Despite the very high standard of hurdling in the league, the day started well with victories going to Rory Keen, Ellie Jackson and Lois Mc Tiffin whilst Meg Mc Hugh recorded a PB in second place. Tess Mc Hugh and Brogan Rudman were also runners up in hurdles events.
Our endurance athletes maintained good Harrier tradition with Charlie Hobson, Alexa Mc Tiffin, Tess Mc Hugh and Mia Gibbons winning 800m events whilst runners up slots went to Bailey Hulse, Ellie Twite, Alice Dale and Lauren Smith.
Congratulations to Matilda Waters who won the pole vault and Grace Bower who set a new PB of 5m 23cms for first place in the long jump, finished runner up in the high jump and was a member of our record-breaking real team. Further victories in the jumps went to Jack Daley and Meg Mc Hugh whilst Harriet Wareing, Lewis Hindle and Michael Odejimi were runners up.
Our throwers again did us proud with Jonathan Adderley victorious in two events and runner up in a third. Emma Lowe and Anthony Bruton both had a first and two second places whilst Olivia Ashworth, Tess Blandamer and Meg Mc Hugh were also victorious whilst Nathan Booth, HarryBoyd, Jemma Carr and Rosaleen Sheenan were runners up
The match ended with a tremendous performance in the relays including wins in all three girl’s events. The U15 boy’s team are National league record holders for the 4 x 300m relay but on this occasion had to settle for 2nd place behind Gateshead AC but they did win the sprint relay.
Big thanks must go to the parents and supporters from all six clubs taking part who created a tremendous atmosphere which was both conducive to great performances and also supportive of the endeavours of all the youngsters taking part. A big thanks as ever to the all-important team managers Carl Worthington and Dave Marsh and to Ernie Greenwood for the photos (These can be viewed and bought from his website www. http://www.darkstarphotos.com. full results are available at http://www.ukydl.org.uk/page10.html
