If ever there was a race to inspire runners of all abilities it is this years London Marathon. Due in part to the legend Paula Radcliffe (vet 40) who was the darling of the crowds with an inspirational run from the mass start to finish under 2:37. One of the best times for a female Brit this year and fastest none elite female runner.
Sale Harriers was well represented with many achieving great personal goals.
Sonia Samuels in the elite female race ran 2:31:46 for a chance to be selected to reprisent GB in the next Olympics.
Gareth Raven 2:24:08 winning the vets 40 class in the bargain, Richard Brown 2:43:05, Chris Donnelly 2:43:54, Olly Gaillemin 2:44:46, Rob Dunn 2:46:38 pb by 7:30 (Chester 2:54:15), Nick Webb 3:09:50 pb by 9:50, Alistair Kell 3:11:21 pb by 3:35.
Mark Fox 3:11:59, Jenny Fox 3:35:29, Jenny & Mark Fox made their marathon debuts at London having been lucky enough to be allocated club slots. They said “We have set benchmarks for hopefully many more marathon journeys ahead, Jenny did 3:35 (her target was 4:45) – Elated, Ran for charity: Salford Royal Frailty Unit securing over £1k!! Mark ran 3:11 (his target was 3:10), 1:29 at half way on for sub 3, at 2:30s properly hit the wall and faded rapidly so a bit disappointed. More miles needed to get marathon fit. Great experience. A day we will always treasure & remember.”
