Match 1 UKWAL Derby 10th May
The team achieved a creditable 4th place at Derby last weekend in the UKWAL match 1. Finishing just 4.5points behind 3rd placed Notts ac. One of the most pleasing aspects of the match was the filling of all bar one of the events and achieved in spite of a number of experienced athletes being unavailable. Those replacements can be proud of their efforts, which were borne out by the fact that the points scored by our ‘B’ athletes, were the 2nd highest on the day.
There were of course a number of standout performances. Most notably in the field events where Sarah Holt broke the divisional hammer record with 64.32. Team captain Kirsty Law, and Lucy Kirk won both discus contests, and there were victories for Rosie Semenytsh (jav) and Lisa James (TJ).
Pbs were achieved by Hayaat Bah-Traore 200m 26.05, Rebecca Linney 400m 60.14, Abigail Linney 400m 66.14, Luisa Candioli 3000m 10.46.27, J’Nae Ward 100mh 15.12, Rosie Semenytsh 100mh 16.73, Ebbie Danson-Chappell PV 3.50 and Lisa James TJ 12.59.
However, looking beyond the bare statistics, we saw a number of athletes prepared to ‘go the extra mile’ for the team in events they do not train for. Special mention to Tyra Watson’s 2nd place in 400mh, Jen Simmons’ first HJ in 5 years and first ever 1500m, Luisa Candiolis’ 3000m was her first ever track race, and Rosie Semenytsh had only run a 100mh race once before. Rebecca & Abigail Linney ran both 400m and 800m with only a 40 minute recovery inbetween. Jasmin Burke threw javlin in addition to hammer.
Valuable points were added by Olivia Callaghan, Aimee Pratt, Imani Modahl, Sarah Barker, Amy Williams, Georgia Pickles and Aimee Addis.
Next match is Bristol 7th June.
