MAD HATTER'S 5 MILER
The Mad Hatter’s 5mile race around the Vale of Reddish was well represented by Sale athletes. It was a lovely spring evening and the race took place just past Tesco’s near to the M60 motorway.
The race was described by the organisers Bell Vue Racers as ‘undulating’ but to a Mancunian like myself, it was distinctly hilly. This did not put off our athletes who somewhat dominated the presentation, walking away with 6 prizes.
First home in 3rd place overall was Andy Carlin in 30:20. Olly Gaillemin, 3rd vet 40 did 32:13 with Katie White (33:20) second female. Next came Aidan Raftery taking the Vet 55 crown (33:51), followed by Steve Parry who was 3rd vet50 (34:24). Sarah Douglas ran well to take 3rd female prize with 34:27 closely followed by Anne Chinoy who took the F40 prize. Helen Armitage was next in her first ever race in the vet 40 category (she was 3rd) with 36:56. She completed the winning ladies team of Katie, Sarah and Anne.
The ladies V55 prize was won by the evergreen Jackie Cordingley (39:43) who keeps annoyingly beating her handsome young husband Frank Cordingley (39:57). (He can dream.)
Jerry Smith was 3rd Vet 60 with a time of 41:07.
The presentation took place in The Carousel pub and grill and it was a conspicuous Sale Harriers table that was covered in prizes by the end of the evening.
