YDL (Lower) 3
Sale are the YDL champions and, as expected, gained an emphatic victory in our Sportcity home match winning by 100 points and closing in on our 9th successive Northern Premier title.
The outstanding performance of the day came from our U15 girls 4 x 300m relay team who ran 2:52.7 seconds to beat the national YDL record set by the club last year. Well done to MIA GIBBONS, MIA LOWNDES, LIZZIE TWITE and TESS Mc HUGH. Tess had a great day as she also won the hurdles and 300m in a time just 0.1 seconds outside her own club record. The sprint relay team of LAURELLE OBI, CHLOE NEWBIGGING, RUKA SHONIBARE and ELLIE JACKSON won their race by two seconds whilst all four girls plus MIA LOWNDES scored individual victories in sprint or hurdles events including a spectacular sprint double from LAURELLE OBI whilst ELLIE JACKSON had a great shot-putt competition to finish second. The pole vault featured victories from VICTORIA BARLOW and MATILDA WATERS whilst LULU GRIFFITHS and AINE GIBBONS both ran PB’s in the 1500m.
The U15 boys also won both relays running their fastest times of the season. Well done DANIEL AFOLOBI, DILLON STARKIE, RHYS PARKER, FINN McEWAN-PATTERSON, DAPO OLAREWAJO, MICHAEL ODEJIMI, ARON TZEGAY and NAHOM SELEMON. Daniel also scored a sprint double whilst Dillon, Michael, Nahom and Rhys all had individual victories over sprints or hurdles. SHANE CONNELL jumped a tremendous 1.78m to win the high jump from MICHAEL ODEJIMI whilst KIAN LINDSEY and ARON TZEGAY ran PB’s in their events. A big thank you to NATHAN BOOTH who had a busy day scoring valuable points in three throwing events.
In true Harrier tradition, the U13 girl’s dominated the middle distance events with LARA CRAWFORD, JESS SPILSBURY, PENNY TOWNSEND, RUBY BELL and MAISIE WISEMAN all winning their events. Our U13 girl’s cross-country team next winter should be one of the club’s strongest team’s ever. Not to be outdone, our sprinters were also in dominant form with TYLER HILL, KATE BIRD, POPPY GLASBY-SEDDON and ANNA KERSHAW winning the relay by over two seconds whilst Anna won both the 75m sprint and 75m hurdles in very fast times. Tyler and Poppy also won sprint races whilst Kate was runner-up. ALICE DALE was the winner in the high jump whilst PENNY TOWNSEND was runner-up in the long-jump. Congratulations to AYLA HEWITT for two PB’s in winning the long jump and second place in the 150m. Many of these girls receive specialist coaching from JESSICA TAYLOR, the club’s Heptathlete Commonwealth Games Bronze medallist.
The U13 boy’s were also in great form. They won the sprint relay by an astonishing three seconds with a team of ADAM BAGUMA, SAM WORTHINGTON, CHARLIE WATSON and NEO IVANOVIC-BROWN whilst Adam won the 100m and long jump by considerable margins. Sam made a massive contribution to our points total with wins over 200m and long jump and third place in the shot. Charlie, Neo and SAM BROWN also had individual victories in sprint events whilst ZAC STILLER ran a great PB in the hurdles. The boy’s middle distance squad also lived up to the club’s harrier tradition with CHARLIE HOBSON, GEORGE SAFRANUSKAS, JED BAILEY, JOEL STRINGER, ZENON CAINE and ALEX JAMES all finishing 1st or 2nd in their events. Consistent FINLAY MURPHY finished 2nd in his shot-putt contest
Yet again, pivitol to the success of this team was the dogged and stressful hard-work of team managers DAVID MARSH and CARL WORTHINGTON in the weeks beforehand. Well done to them and to the team of club officials who helped deliver this home promotion and the invaluable support of parents. Thanks, too to ERNIE GREENWOOD for the large number of photos taken throughout the day and can be viewed on his website http://www.darkstarphotos.com
