YDL (Upper) (3)
The 3rd UKYDL “Upper” fixture demonstrated the progress made by the 3 Scottish teams and local rivals Sheffield. Despite us having some quite excellent performances from club members, we again suffered from having too many gaps, and throwing away at least 40 points from disqualifications and lateness for events. Even so we had 63 athletes competing, recording 29 personal best performances.
Our male speed merchants were dominant with 16 year old Jona Efoloko scoring a sprint double in the U20 category clocking 10.8secs and 21.8 secs respectively, supported by Emmanuel Muka 11.10s and Jacob Lingard 23.0sec. Lamiko Thomas (50.3s) and Thomas Gerrard (51.8s) were impressive 400m victors.
The U17 sprinters Ellis Goldie and Ben Moseley both had sprint doubles in personal bests. Leah Hillman (U17) was welcomed to the squad, and responded admirably coming 2nd in the U20 Discus with 31m 14cm, 2nd in the U20 hammer with 36m 58cm and winning her speciality event, the Javelin.
Olivia Crompton U17 had fine runs in the 200m 25.7secs and 300m 40.7sec. both personal bests. Josef Murphy U17 in his first competition for the club threw the shot 12m 55cm, and Jonathan Adderley U17 threw the Discus out to 39m 56cms.
An analysis of the fixture shows clearly our weakness are in the hurdles and chase, and more discipline is needed as all the disqualifications were preventable.
