LAKELAND ‘50’ & ‘100’
The Lake District is renowned for incredible landscapes, tough running challenges and consistently beautiful weather. And indeed on Saturday July 18th 2015 this reputation held true with the Lakeland 50 ultra-trail. A number of Sale Harrier members went to enjoy this opportunity.
TIM RAINEY had already set off the Friday evening to take on the 100 mile race when on Saturday morning, MIKE ASHBY, OLIVIER GAILLEMIN, KATIE REECE and MIKE WYMER set off from Coniston on the 50 mile trail.
Tim put in a valiant effort but along with over 30% of the 100 miler field, unfortunately had to stop in Ambleside, having run for some 34 hours and covered a good 90 miles. Next time...
As regards the 50 mile racers, a fantastic day's running was had with all four completing the challenge in good time. Mike and Olly were first home in 9 hours 56 minutes (had they run as an official team they would have broken the team course record). Michael was looking to enjoy some night time running so finishing an hour or so into the Sunday and Katie who had completed the 100 mile race in 2014, came home basking in a Sunday finish with the start of the dawn chorus.
Well done to all
