It is with great regret that we report the passing of a very popular member of Sale Harriers Bill Fox. He was a prolific club runner for many years and tributes are pouring in from all sectors of the running community. He died on Sunday morning at 00.10 am whilst many of his friends in the club were enjoying a training weekend in the Lakes. He would normally have been on the weekend enjoying the spectacular scenery, the friendly atmosphere and the great running.
He died peacefully and bravely after suffering from pancreatic cancer for just over two years. He was strong right to the end and he even managed to smile just before he went.
He has passed on his love of running to the next generation, his son Ben was on the training weekend and his daughter Steph is running the Derby Half Marathon in October raising money for Pancreatic Cancer Action. Donations are most welcome. Click here for a link.
Bill's wife Lynne has said:
"Thank you so much to all the people who have said so many wonderful things about Bill. We're overwhelmed by people's kindness and caring and you are all helping us to get through this extremely sad time. Some arrangements have already been made for Bill's funeral. It will be a celebration and service of thanksgiving for his life. It will be held at Hollingworth Methodist Church next Tuesday, the 22nd of September at 11.15 am. This will be followed with a cremation at Dukinfield crematorium at 1.00 pm. Afterwards we are going back to the church where the chairs will have been rearranged, tables put out and we will have meat and potato pie etc. We think this is what Bill would have wanted. If you are a member of Sale Harriers and you have a SH hoodie we would like you to wear it. It would also be nice to see some of my hats too! We will have family flowers only but we will be collecting money for www.pcrf.org.uk which as you already know is Bill's charity."
