REGIONAL CHAMPS FOR DISABILITY ATHLETES
On a cool grey showery spring day The Regional Championships for Disability Athletes took place at Sport City. Rarely do these athletes get mentioned and many members may not even know of their existence. Pray that you are not struck down like Sale Harrier Lee Whiteley (coach - Keith Hunter) who one minute was leading a normal life as a club athlete when his world was turned upside down by a sudden illness. His competitive streak led to him not giving in and he battled back to compete at the highest level, leading to a World Championship medal in 2013 in Lyon. He joins young Chloe Knight (coach - Keith Hunter) who has a World Indoor Bronze amongst other medals in T/F20. Robert Wilshire competed in the old YDL in Long Jump going almost unnoticed.
Coming back to today our young Sale Harrier Finlay Freeman (coaches - Hunter/Wilshire) collected two Championship medals at the Regional Championships, one for Sprints and one for Long Jump. May his determination and success in a Sale vest long continue.
