Sale stayed on track to defend their Northern title with a drawn match with home team Preston AC. Our girl’s team are clearly the best in the country with both girl’s sprint relay teams now heading the National rankings. The U15 team of MIA LOWNDES, LAURELLE OBI, CHLOE NEWBIGGING and PRAISE OWOEYE set a new club record whilst the U13 team of OSARUMEN ODEMWENGIE, RENE GOOSEN, MELISSA BOOTH and JASMINE RICHARDSON showed a massive four second improvement from match one. We hold the National record for the 4 x 300m relay and our team of MEGAN GREENWAY, AYLA HEWITT, LIZZIE TWITE and TESS Mc HUGH maintain their unbeaten record to go 2nd on this year’s National rankings. We again scored maximum points in the pole vault with wins from SOPHIE ASHURST and AMY HASLAM. Our long jumpers were amazing with a clean sweep of four victories from DEVON WEYMONT, PRAISE OWOEYE, RENE GOOSEN, SOFIJA DRAGISIC-WOOD. In the middle distance events out star performer was MIA GIBBONS who improved her PB by 10 seconds to finish 2nd in the 1500m. Also finishing 2nd in middle distance events were LULU GRIFFITHS, LARA CRAWFORD, ISABELLE BURKE and KATIE STRINGER. Cheshire multi-event gold medallist LOIS Mc TIFFIN competed in three events and had a great day with a win and two 2nd places. Well done to SOFIJA DRAGISIC-WOOD who won two of the three events she competed in. A special mention to KIA LICIA-CLARKSON who, having run a PB over 75m, scored valuable points in her first ever attempt at the high jump. A number of primary age girls competed for the club and performed with great credit. Well done to NIAMH BOYD, ESME ALDRIDGE, KATIE STRINGER, LIBBY HILL, ERIN DONNELLY and DIDS PARISH.
In the boy’s events, LOUIS APPIAH-KUBI again scored a fine sprint double and then teamed up with LEWIS HINDLE, THEODORE UDOISE and CALEB ADENUGA to win the sprint relay in 47.4 seconds (a time that would have won last year’s National final. Caleb showed what an amazing athlete he is with a win in the long jump and a super fast time in the hurdles. SAM EBONINE and JED BAILEY again scored maximum points in the high jump whilst BROOK WYATT won the pole vault. PADDY MacKENZIE and SAM WADSWORTH scored well in the throwing events whilst the middle distance squad of SAM HEYWORTH, GEORGE SAFRANAUSKAS, JOHN GILBERT and JOEL STRINGER all ran PB’s.
In the U13 boy’s events, our relay team of KANE SAVILLE, RYAN NEWBIGGING, JOE HERBERT and DANIEL AITKEN improved their time by over three seconds from match one to finish runners-up. All four boys ran well in sprint events with double Cheshire sprint champion JOE HERBERT making a league debut, whilst Ryan was runner-up in the high jump. In the middle distance events ALEX JAMES and ZAC GAILLEMIN ran PB’s in the 1500m whilst primary age athletes WILL PARKER, ARCHIE Mc CARRON and HARRY EDMUNDSON ran well over 800m/.MACKENA BRADSHAW competed in three events with his best performance an excellent 2nd place in the javelin.
The 3rd and penultimate match is on home territory at Sportcity on SUNDAY June 19th.
