Sale are now in a strong position to retain their U13 & U15 Northern League title with a home victory which puts them 100 points ahead of 2nd place Preston with one match to go.
Our star female athlete TESS Mc HUGH, who equalled her own club record in the U15 girl’s 300m and then teamed up MIA LOWNDES, PENNY TOWNSEND and LIZZIE TWITE to set a new National record for the 4 x 300m relay, winning by over 10 seconds in the pouring rain. Mia & Lizzie were also impressive winners of individual sprint events.
On the boy’s side, our star was ABRAHAM FOBIL who, on his club debut, won 3 events in the U13 age-group. Trained within the Diane Modahl Sports Foundation, his 200m time ranks him 1st in the UK and his 100m ranks him 3rd.
The U15 girl’s sprint relay team of LAURELLE OBI, RUKA SHONIBARE, JESS NELSON and CHLOE NEWBIGGING won by 3 seconds and all the girls were victors in individual sprint events with spectacular performances. Cheshire multi-event gold medallist LOIS Mc TIFFIN and silver medallist SCARLETT WHITTAKER each took part in three events with Lois winning the javelin and Scarlett the high jump. We scored maximum points in the pole vault for the 3rd match running with SOPHIE ASHURST winning her event with a PB of 2.95cms whilst LUCIE WOLFENDEN won the B event having also won the inter-county Mason trophy event on Saturday. Our middle distance squad of LULU GRIFFITHS, ALICE TONGE, MIA GIBBONS and ANOUSKA BROOKS performed well against strong opposition whilst ALICE DALE was runner up in the hurdles and javelin.
In the U15 boy’s events, LOUIS APPIAH-KUBI won both sprint events for the 3rd successive match and teamed up with NEO IVANOVIC-BROWN, CALEB ADENUGA and SAM EBONINE to win the sprint relay. Caleb also won the long jump and finished 2nd in the hurdles in a very fast time whilst Sam won the high jump with an impressive 1.70cms. SAM WORTHINGTON again competed in 4 events and scored a massive individual points total. Double County champion BROGAN RUDMAN was a comfortable winner in his hurdles event whilst SAM WADSWORTH and BEN KERSH again scored well in the throws and LEWIS HINDLE ran well in 3 sprint events.
In the U13 girl’s events, our middle distance squad of ISABELLE BURKE, OLIVIA HERRON, RUBY BELL and TAYLOR EDWARDS were in dominant form with 2 wins and 2 second places.. The relay team of FANNY OSARUMEN ODEMWENGIE, RENE GOOSEN, MELISSA BOOTH and JASMINE RICHARDSON finished 2nd with the same time as winners Preston and all the girls ran PB’s in their individual events.
HERMIONE MASON ran an impressive PB in the hurdles event whilst SOFIJA DRAGISIC-WOOD competed in three events finishing 2nd in two of them. AVA TAYLOR made her league debut finishing 2nd in the high jump.
The U13 boy’s sprint relay team of KANE SAVILLE, DANIEL AITKIN, JOE HERBERTT and SCOTT WOODS won by 20 metres whilst Joe won the 100m and Kane and Scott were runners-up in the sprint events. MACKENNA BRADSHAW competed in 3 events finishing 2nd in two of them whilst DOMINIC REID jumped impressively for 3rd in the high jump.
All sections of the club contributed to this resounding team victory. Nineteen sprint victories, including four relays, gives further credence to our claim to having the most powerful sprint squads in the country.
