NIGEL & LAURA MARTIN REWRITE THEIR LIMITS
Just when we thought NIGEL & LAURA MARTIN had wrapped up their 2025, they produced two outstanding performances at the 40th Leeds Abbey Dash 10k — the race where Nigel set his long-standing PB of 29:30 way back in 2021.
Fully recovered from a prolonged early-season injury, and fresh off a superb victory in the gruelling Two Valleys Trail Half Marathon in Keswick, Nigel, running yet again as an elite member of the Altra Running Footwear Team, really delivered. He trimmed five seconds off his lifetime best, running 29:25 for 8th place in the England Athletics 10k Championships so a high-quality field. This ranked him 5th V35 in the UK and further consolidated his position as the club’s fastest runner over 10k in 2025. Of the race that featured a new course he said
“Leeds Abbey Dash – 29:25 for 8th at the English 10k Champs. Love the new course and basically a perfect weather day which at the moment is very lucky! 5s off my road PB from 4 years ago and a big step forward from last year. Not done just yet! Plenty of races coming up, some XC and hopefully a HM later in the winter”
Nigel’s wife Laura also produced the run of her life, clocking 38:24, a 32-second PB on her 2024 Trafford 10K. This was also more than a minute faster than her best 10k of 2025 which she set at July’s Wilmslow Summer 10K. To put this into perspective, it ranked her Sale Harrier’s 6th fastest female over the distance in 2025.
Other Sale Harriers who travelled up to Leeds were Nick Tynan who ran 33:53 and Steve McCarron who did 34:25 for 3rd V50.
