SUCCESS, SUN, SWEAT & SHIPWRECKS IN CYPRUS
On the final weekend of November eight Sale Harriers – CHLOE ELLIOTT, JENNY FOX, LYNDA ROWLINSON, RICHARD EDWARDS, MARK FOX, GARY ROWLINSON & HEATHER & DAVE BRINT – enjoyed a ‘cracking trip’ to Cyprus for the “Leptos Cyprus International Challenge”. The 4-day adventure covers a distance slightly longer than a marathon and includes a 6k time trial out to a shipwreck, an 11k brutal hill run with 2000ft of ascent, a hilly half marathon with stunning panoramic views and a 10k road race finale in Paphos. The group described it as a bit like the Tour of Tameside but with more climbing and descending and, of course, 4 days of sunshine.
It wasn’t just a fantastic trip; it was a highly successful one! Chloe Elliott won all four events, earning the overall Series Champion title. Jenny Fox claimed 1st V45, while Lynda Rowlinson finished 5th V60 in a particularly competitive age-group. Together, the trio also secured 3rd place in the team competition.
The ‘boys’ also put in strong performances: Richard Edwards was 2nd V45, missing his prize and plinth by just 28 seconds and Mark Fox was 4th V45
On the final day’s 10k race, Gary Rowlinson and Heather Brint joined the field, finishing 49th male and 61st female respectively. Dave Brint provided invaluable support throughout the trip as the group’s chief cheerleader.
