National Junior League Final
The club's junior men and women had their turn at the weekend to compete against the nation's best in the National Junior League Final held at Derby. They commended themselves very well finishing 6th and said team manager, Jack Frost, "This Final is always held at the end of a long season, and it was certainly encouraging to see the many athletes who turned out to support the club. The 6th position attained from the top 8 British clubs was deemed satisfactory, considering the many absentees"
Several outstanding performances were registered. Top of the pile was 16yr old Callum Roughneen's 49.21 sec 400metre run, whilst at the same distance Abigayel Fitzpatrick and Tyra Watson had scintillating runs, then continued their fine form, when anchoring the 4 x 400 relay squad. Charlotte Dickenson and Brogan Crowley threw well, plus Brogan's hurdle run was of the highest order. The Pole Vaulters Katie Byres, Jennie Hughes, Jacob Sutcliffe and Alex Wort, did the club proud, picking up 3 gold and a bronze awards.
The National Junior Athletic League was founded in 1989 with 16 men and 8 women's teams It's aim is to provide athletics competition for the under 20 age group with under 17's allowed to compete within the older age group. This then provides the necessary bridge from young athlete to senior competition.
The club say many thanks to the U/17 athletes for competing in this U/20 event, and the group of officials and helpers who completed our obligations.
