National Record In Tom Pink Relay
Against strong opposition from Salford Met, Bury AC, Spenborough AC, St. Helen's AC, Bolton H &AC, West Cheshire AC, Crewe & Nantwich AC, Halton & Frodsham AC, Sale girls took part in six relays at the Tom Pink event at Sportcity, winning four and finishing runners-up in the other two. The best Sale performance came in the U13 girls 5000m continuous relay where a team of Ellie Twite, Meg Mc Hugh, Francesca Brint, Aine Cunningham and Olivia Green not only lapped all the other teams but set a new national record of 13:58.00. The same girls had previously won the 'up-and-over' obstacle relay and finished runners-up in the sprint relay, giving each girl two AAA gold and one AAA silver medal. Not to be outdone, the U11 teams containing Niamh Nugent, Beth Thornton, Tess Mc Hugh and Lizzie Twite won the sprint relay and finished runners-up in the obstacle race whilst each girl was awarded a gold badge for the distance they covered in a two minute endurance challenge. All the girls also took part in the pentathlon award an event in which Adam Kinghorn gained a gold award.
Overall Sale athletes won
18 AAA Gold medals
9 AAA Silver medals
4 Gold Endurance Badges
3 Gold pentathlon badges
2 Silver Pentathlon badges
5 Bronze Pentathlon Badges
...........plus enough certificates to paper a wall..
The most successful individual athletes were Meg Mc Hugh and Aine Cunningham with 5 medals/badges each whilst the Mc Hugh sisters (Meg & Tess) with 9 medals/badges just outscored the Twite sisters (Ellie and Lizzie) who won 8 to ensure family bragging rights.
A special thanks to Graham Marshall, Callum Rowlinson, and Barry Hanson who helped organise the event and was the brainchild of George Brummer.
