Crossford Youngsters Shine
Over the weekend our youngsters represented the club with great success in a number of events. On Saturday at Sportcity, over forty clubs were represented in the four events - Quadrathon and Sale, with three wins and two second places we were the most successful team. Rory Canham won the U15 boy's event with Adam Kinghorn in second place. Anthony Bruton won the U13 competition by over 50 points whilst setting a new record in the shot. Our most successful girl was Tess Mc Hugh who won the U11 competition whilst J'Nae Ward finished second in the U15 girls competition with Charlotte Worthington winning the 100m in a new PB of 13.0 seconds.
On Sunday morning Olivia Green had an outstanding run in the Manchester Parks 3000m road race at Platt Fields, not only winning the U13 girl's race but beating all the girls in the older age groups too.
At Crossford Bridge over 200 athletes took part in the medal meeting. In the U15 age-group, Charlotte Worthington continued her winning ways by winning both sprints, beating team-mates Tayla Saville and Olivia Barnes. Emily Evans won the long-jump with Olivia second, whilst Abbi Smith won the Shot and Discus. Will Scofield was the most successful boy with three victories in the long jump and both sprints.
In the U13 age-group Maria Mc Polin and Anthony Bruton both won 100m events whilst other victories came from Amy Page (LJ), Harry Brown (800m) and Joseph Murphy (Shot). Emma Lowe won two silver medals in the throws. Sam Worthington won the three gold medals in the U11 long jump and both sprints, to bring the family a total to five golds. Behind Sam, other Sale athletes dominated. Brogan Rudman, Darcy Maher, William Preston and Benji Lovell winning the other medals. The highlight of the girl's event was the 800m in which Lizzie Twite, Beth Thornton and Lauren Smith improved their PB's by a large margin.
Over fifty Sale athletes took part in the U9 event with an incredible twenty-eight in the boy's 75m sprints. Kane Saville was a gold medallist in the long jump with Ben Wilson in silver. Oliver Gilgrist won the 50m sprint with Kane third and Sam Jones 4th. Sale dominated the 600m event with Thomas Boyd a clear winner from Ben Wilson, Harvey Davenport, Luke Talbot and Dominic Reid to give the club the first five home. Mckenna Bradshaw was a clear winner of the javelin with Dominic second. Our girls were equally dominant with golds from Alicia Mc Dowell (60m), Melissa Booth (75 & LJ) and Abigail Hewitt (Jav). Our other medallists were Sofija Dragisic-Wood (2 silvers), Holly Harrison (Silver), Ciara Rastery (bronze) and Holly Scholes (bronze). (Compiled by Peter Shaw)
