System One Supports Seun Okome
Gifted high jumper Seun Okome from Moston trains every evening after school and devotes several hours each week to help coach the club's youngest jumpers but to do that he has to get three buses each way, and even with his student discount that's expensive. His coach Jack Frost believes Sean has wonderful perseverance and huge potential, so he got SHM on the case. The club asked Seun's Member of Parliament Tony Lloyd if he could help; the response was immediate. He contacted Transport for Greater Manchester and Sean's local Councillor, Rosa Battle. Councillor Battle provided the application forms and advice to apply for a grant, whilst TfGM discussed the possibilities with SystemOne Travelcards.
www.systemonetravelcards.co.uk provides a range of travelcards through PayPoint outlets, TfGM Travelshops or online that give unlimited travel on any bus, or combinations of bus, train and tram, in Greater Manchester over set periods - from a day, to a week, to 28 days or an entire year. Inspired by London 2012, they have made an exceptional gesture in giving Sean a TfGM pass for a whole year.
Tim Slough, from SystemOne said: "The nation has been gripped by Olympic fever and what better way to show our support than to help an athlete who could, one day, go on to be a Games competitor. This truly exceptional gesture has been inspired by the belief that Seun's team has in his huge potential and in the 2012 Games' mission to inspire the next generation of athletes."
Tony Lloyd said: "Seun is a dedicated athlete who is building on his own potential and achieving great results, but he is also giving a lot back by helping to train younger would-be athletes.
He is extraordinary and deserves the extraordinary help from SystemOne. Like everyone else, I look forward to seeing Seun achieving the great things that his dedication deserves."
Seun said "I will never forget the kindness of Mr Lloyd, Councillor Battle, Transport for Greater Manchester and SystemOne. Training is a lot easier without the financial strain."
