23 Medalists In National Junior Final.
The National Junior League season ended at Derby at the weekend with the National Finals when a well represented club junior team succumbed to extremely strong Southern teams, with Shaftsbury Harriers heading Blackheath & Bromley for the title. Medals seemed destined for our athletes, who gathered 7 Gold, 4 Silver and 12 Bronze for a combined total of 23. Fine individual performances were registered during the day, highlights being the following.
Seun Okome soared over the HJ bar with a pb of 2m 01cm into a terrible headwind, whilst Ahtollah Rose came back to form with a 12m 66cm Triple jump. She inspired Lisa James to a new pb of 11m 54cm. These winds certainly did not help George Craddick's magnificent 47.08sec clocking, who gallingly missed the league record by one hundreth of a second. He then contributed a scintillating 46.8sec relay leg. Daniel Heald and Nathan Selby both clocked 21.8sec 200 metres runs, and Charlie Hulson and Ryan Moore had torrid battles in the 1500m, both coming away with Silver medals.
Brogan Crowley had an excellent day, registering hurdle victory in 13.95secs, followed by pbs in javelin (34.26cm) and shot (11m 32cm). Alex Wort contributed a 4m 10cm PV, 15.20sec hurdles and a fine pb of 34m 81cm discus. Abigail Fitzpatrick set the track event off with an impressive 400m hurdles win. Marnie Wells-Nicholls was engaged in a class HJ competition, which saw her achieve 1m 68cm.
Overall a fine season has passed, achieving the club's goal in reaching this National Final. Full detailed results can be found on the 'Power of 10' website. (Submitted by Team Manager Jack Frost)
