On The Roads In June
June 9th Simon Jackson and Steve Townley made their journey to Morecambe for a hot 10k. "I was reasonably happy with 9th place (38,27) on the back of my 2nd place at Fleetwood 10k the previous Sunday whilst Steve grabbed 5th spot with 36.35m".
June 13th Dunham Massey (2) Of the fifteen who took part in the penultimate race of the North Cheshire 5k series, it was our ladies who went home happiest. Lauren Davies made her massive breakthrough by finally breaking the elusive 22 minutes barrier to record a spanking new PB of 21.54. Carla Ousey (22:22) also recorded a PB..... and she'll whisper the imaginative way she did it to anyone desperately wanting to improve their PB! Louise Robbins (20:55) also had every reason to go home happy. She clocked her fastest time of the season with a time that was just a few seconds short of her PB. Other noteworthy performances were Fechin Mc Cormick (23:30), returning to racing after a two year lay-off who improved sixteen seconds over the first race. Even better Dave Gill (23:40) improved by over forty seconds.
June 15th Platt Fields 10k. The weather was a complete contrast to last year with sunshine and a gentle breeze. Sale Harriers had a strong contingent, with Rob Flannery (34.28) not far behind the eventual winner Andy Norman of Altrincham (31.28). Dave Marsh had a good run (35.32) as did Pistol Pete Crawford (36.19). The lads took the team prize for senior men. Lynda Rowlinson was first over 50 (44.55) closely followed by Jackie Cordingley (45.17). Cara O'Brien ( 43.15) and Jan Nichols (40.51) joined Lynda to take the ladies prize and Jan took a V35 prize because apparently it was better than the V40 prize. Geof Beattie (49.57) was pleased to take the V60 prize. Kyle Conway was first U20 with a great time of 37.19. This was the second in the Manchester Grand Prix series and rankings will be announced soon. Other Sale Harriers taking part included Frank Cordingley and Jenny Cordingley; Ben O'Brien, Helen Reagan and Brian Bradshaw. In the 3k event Sale had some great performancies too. Giovanna Brady was 3rd with Eleanor Twite first in the U15. Jordan Bezinna just missed out on first place by 10 seconds to take 2nd prize in the U15 boys. In the U17 boys category Matthew Metcalfe was 2nd and Khaled Absiyeh 3rd.
June 16th: BMAF 5k Championships. If you want to read awesome age-category times log onto the British Masters website and read the results from the weekend's 5k championships at Horwich. Only two from the club entered it - Mike Curley and James Lambe. Mike doesn't often race nowadays which is a pity because he's the club's fastest M60. His time was a slower than normal - 20:00 mins. M45 Jim Lambe is returning to his best and his 22:22 was just four seconds faster than last year.
June 16th Simon Jackson was a last minute entry into the Freckleton half marathon (didn't have enough in his recent Windermere Marathon!). He's performed well on a hot afternoon to finish 39/860 with a time of 1:27 (PB is 82:36),
