No: This isn’t about Income tax but a snapshot of my thoughts about my running during 2013.
A look at my log on my computer shows a mere 500 miles of running. I use the word running loosely as jogging or hobbling would seem more correct. This was a big disappointment as it doesn’t seem so long ago that I would run the Timperley Dash on Thursday and a half marathon the following weekend. Those were the days, but where has the time gone?
I became even more disappointed, even depressed until I accessed some inserted comments which read:-
24 June Ran in Lyme Park with Alan 48years, Aidan 14years and Cameron 10years. My son and grandsons were over from Australia. We had a lovely run around ‘Cage Hill’. The weather was perfect.
Fast forward to18 August and while I was down in the Midlands I was invited, or was it challenged, to go for a jog with my two granddaughters, Nel’ 15years and Han’ 13 Years, both County hockey players. We only ran a mile but they jogged along in front chatting away leaving me a trembling wreck 50yards behind.
28 December. The two young Amazons came up for Christmas and announced on arrival that they had brought their running kit. We went round the local fields and they did some shuttle runs while I held the stopwatch which enabled me to keep up with them on the way home.
I am sure there are other ‘wrinkly runners’ like me out there who have had similar experiences. Cherish them. They are worth more than buckets full of medals and plastic trophies. Cherish them.
So: 2013 wasn’t that bad after all.
PS. My eldest granddaughter is a decent swimmer and wants to go swimming with me so I will just be off to the baths to do some training.
