Fechin Mc Cormick
(The following is a Press Release send to all local media. The Club extends best wishes to Bill fox for a complete recovery to health). Bill Fox, a long time member of Sale Harriers ‘foxed’ cancer in less than 12 months and ran the first of this year’s health promotion Sale 5k Sizzlers held annually in Wythenshawe Park. Last July, 60 year old Bill was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given just twelve months to live. He underwent serious surgery; lost half his pancreas, his gall bladder and some of his stomach and intestines and endured 24 weeks of chemotherapy at the Christie Hospital during which his weight dropped from 12st to 9st.
He started running again just in the middle of May about a month after the chemotherapy and set about training for this year 4 x 5k ’Sizzlers’ as his target for recovery. He was among the 400 participants of all abilities, shapes and sizes who completed the first run in an incredible 23mins 12 seconds. Said delighted Bill “The doctors told me that, had I not been so fit from running, I would not have survived so it’s important I keep it up. I encourage everyone to take up sport to keep fit”
This year, the series is supporting St. Ann’s Hospice who require £16,000 every day to provide their tremendous services. The first ten people to come forward prepared to complete the course and raise just £20 for St.Ann’s will receive a free entry.
Everyone is welcome to join the remaining three events on flat, scenic paths within Wythenshawe Park on Thursday evenings (7.30pm) July 17th, July 31st and August 14th. They are for all abilities no matter how fast or slow. For more information or an entry form just email firstname.lastname@example.org
