KEVIN WINS SCHOOLS INTERNATIONAL
Fechin Mc Cormick
As a result of Kevin Metzger becoming English School’s inter-boy’s triple jump Gold medallist, he was selected to represent England at the schools international at Cardiff last weekend. Britain’s No.1 young triple jumper continued his fantastic development by repeating his 14.59 PB and club record from the English schools to win the triple jump competition in the Siab Schools international.
This is what his coach Keith Hunter wrote, “Kevin’s day began with teasing from a fellow competitor who was trying to psych him out by asking the English Schools champion “What’s it like knowing you're going to come second?” - this from a triple jumper Kevin beat by half a meter only a week ago...must have the memory of a goldfish! Another more realistic lad pointed Kevin out to his coach and said “That guy's going off the 13 meter board - I might as well go home.”
Kevin’s first jump was 14.13m and broke the field. The teasing athlete managed a respectable first round 13.56m, so Kevin gave him the benefit of the doubt, considered him dangerous and jumped 14.41m. In fairness, the teaser replied with 14.08m, which was starting to become annoying, so Magic Metzger put in a whopper around the 15m mark, this bearing in mind that everyone else was bothering the 12-13m section of the pit. If the governor of The Bank of England isn't sure what deflation looks like, he should have been there. Sadly, after a long hard look, it was flagged a no jump; Kevin then turned the screw with a comfortable reproduction of his English Schools 14.59m. Now that's how to psych someone out! The teaser slumped to 13.53cm”. Congratulations yet again, Kevin
