Parkrun league

March – September inclusive

Who can take part?

Any fully paid up Sale Harrier. You must also have Sale Harriers as your parkrun associated club

Juniors wishing to enter should do so with the permission of their parents and coach. This is an “opt-in” event so please contact organiser Rob Marsden if you are taking part!

Format

Each of the 7 months will have an allocated parkrun (see below). All runners will have the 4 or 5 Saturdays in that month to complete the parkrun.

Every runner competing will need to have a 5k or parkrun pb in the 12 months prior to the start of competition – this will be your base time until you improve it. Hopefully doing the scoring in this manner will equalise the event so everyone has a real chance of winning regardless of age, gender etc.

Your score/points will be the difference between your parkrun time and your base time.

For example: If you have a pb of 18mins and run 18.30 at an event then you score 30 points.

At the end of the season the person with the lowest score wins.

Details

Peel.

This parkrun is close to the University campus next to the River Irwell that meanders through Salford. Coming by car you can park in a large carpark down Irwell Place but remember to put a parkrun barcode on your dashboard for free parking. The course is pretty flat and mostly on good tarmac paths. About 5 miles from Crossford Bridge. Postcode M5 4PE.  What 3 words goats.often.clown

Male course record 15:15   Female 16:34

Alexandra Park.

This parkrun is a popular run for many Sale Harriers around a typical Victorian Park with nice wide tarmac paths and pancake flat. They have recently improved the course by putting the circular path in the middle instead of the end which avoids the problem of faster runners having to navigate slower runners at the finish. Parking is available on local roads close to the park. Please park sensibly with consideration to local residents. About 4 miles from Crossford Bridge.

Male course record 14:12   Female 16:17

Bramhall

Another pretty park in south Manchester. One of the first parkruns around here started in 2009. Narrow paths and some inclines not one for super fast times but very pretty and friendly. 3 laps. No dogs or double buggies. Parking is available on local side roads and there is a small car park. postcode SK7 3NX. About 10 miles from Crossford Bridge.

Male course record 14:50   Female 16:46

Pennington Flash

This parkrun is just outside Leigh and is a trail run with some grass sections. A 3 lapper with great views along the way. There is a large carpark with a £2.50 charge or you can park for free at Leigh Sports Village accross the road. Your choice. Leigh WN7 4JY. About 15 miles from Crossford Bridge.

Male course record 15:47   Female 17:59

Sutton Manor

Just off the M62 towards Liverpool this parkrun is in another local beauty spot near Rainhill, StHelens. A somewhat convoluted route but at least it’s not multiple laps. Park at the King George V playing fields carpark. WA9 4RU. About 24 mils from Crossford Bridge.

Male course record 16:13   Female 18:26

Haigh Woodland

Near Wigan this parkrun is through a pleasant wooded park in the grounds of Haigh Hall. The sort of place that you could easily spend a day out with the kids. The run falls by about 250ft and back again of course. Save some energy for the finish. The carpark is £1.50 for 90mins or £3 all day. School Ln, Wigan. WN2 1PE About 20 miles from Crossford Bridge.

Male course record 15:22   Female 17:39

Stretford

Back to familiar territory here and only 2 miles from Crossford Bridge. A fast 2 lap course in Longford Park with just one cone (turn around) to slow you down. Starts and finishes on the track and gets very busy. Park on Turn Moss if you want to avoid the carpark.

Male course record 14:42   Female 16:35

Notes

  • Runners will need to be set up on parkrun with Sale Harriers Manchester as their club.
  • Times issued by parkrun are final – I don’t care what your watch says!
  • Can you have more than one go at the parkrun in the month? Yes! You can do the event as many times as you like in the month; the fastest time will count.
  • What happens if I beat my PB/Base time? If this happens you will get a negative score and reduce your overall tally. Remember the Base time is not fixed so the new PB will then count as your Base time.
  • If you do not complete the parkrun in the allocated month, your time will be awarded as PB + 5mins
  • If a parkrun is cancelled for more than 2 weeks in a month, additional weeks will be allowed to complete the event, this will be communicated at the time.
  • In the unlikely event of a tie, a run-off will take place following the handicap rules.
