Our Young Athletes (ages 6 to 15) train primarily at Crossford Bridge, where they receive expert coaching in a fun, inclusive, and age-appropriate environment. Children are grouped by school year and have the opportunity to develop their athletic skills across various disciplines.

Many coaches hold first aid certificates, and all adhere to an active Child Protection Policy, with DBS checks in place.

Seasonal Training Focus
Summer (Apr–Sep): Track & field coaching.
Winter (Oct–Mar): Off-site endurance training with safety bibs.
Athlete Progression
At Crossford Bridge, young athletes progress through colour groups based on their school year:
Blue Group
Year 2
Yellow Group
Year 3
Red Group
Year 4
Green Group
Year 5
White Group
Year 6
Each group is led by qualified coaches and helpers who tailor sessions to the athletes’ development.
Upon leaving primary school, athletes transition into event-based groups:
🏃 Endurance Groups – Focus on long-distance running and stamina.
🏅 Multi-Event Group – Covers various athletic disciplines.
At this stage, athletes are expected to represent the club in competitions throughout the year, as advised by their coaches.
Orange Group
Mixed-gender group for Year 7+ runners. Focus on steady countryside runs with some speed/hill work. Meets Sundays & Tuesdays. Optional interval sessions at Wythenshawe track on Mondays/Wednesdays.
Purple Group
Year 7+ Sprinters, Hurdlers, Throwers and Jumpers. Based at the Crossford bridge track. Some members may join specialist sessions held at the Wythenshawe and SportCity centres. Sunday & Tuesday.
Girls Middle Group
Year 7+ female-only group focussed on cross-country (autumn/winter) and middle-distance track events (spring/summer). Sessions held on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Please Note: Due to high demand, all training sessions require pre-booking, and we operate a waiting list for all age groups. Do not turn up without an official invitation and a confirmed booking. If you are not booked in via SPOND, you will NOT be allowed to join the session.

Session Booking & Attendance
Training Schedule:
- Tuesdays: 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM (Yellow Group and above)
- Sundays: 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM (All groups)
Sessions are released 3 days before training via SPOND and are subject to coach availability. If a session is full or not listed, this means it is not running – please do NOT attend or attempt to join another group’s session.
➡ Primary section athletes are expected to attend at least 40% of sessions to ensure consistent participation and development.
Newcomers & Membership
- Trial Sessions: New athletes can attend three trial sessions before committing.
- Membership Requirement: If the coach approves and the athlete wishes to continue, they must become a registered member.
- Annual Membership Fee: £35 per year.
- Session Fee: £2 per session (booked and paid via SPOND).
