Another of Sale Harriers’ flagship young athletes, Thea Brown, delivered a magnificent and heroic performance for Britain in the heptathlon at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Visibly hampered by a significant hamstring tear, she just missed out on the bronze medal to finish a world-class 4th place. Her performance across the two days, before and after the injury, was phenomenal.

On Day 1 she recorded a PB and heptathlon championship record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.23 (1.3), before adding another PB of 11.85m in the shot put, ending Day 1 in 3rd place. She later jumped a season’s best of 6.39m in the long jump and threw another PB of 35.46m in the javelin, despite being visibly hampered by her hamstring injury.

She finished with a heptathlon score of 5826 points – just 24 points outside the medal positions. This score improves her own U20 heptathlon club record from 5426 points, set in Spain in June 2025. Her 100m hurdles PB of 13.23 was also an U20 club record, improving on 13.28 at the Mannheim International in 2024.
